The Canmaker Summit 2026

Canmaker Summit 2026 Shanghai: Connecting China with the Global Metal Packaging Industry

Hycan-E joins the global canmaking community in Shanghai, connecting industry insights with practical opportunities for international collaboration.

From 14 to 16 October 2026, the Canmaker Summit returned to Shanghai, bringing together more than 200 delegates from around the world. The event provided a valuable platform for canmakers, fillers, equipment manufacturers and other industry professionals to exchange knowledge, explore emerging trends and strengthen relationships across the global metal packaging industry.

For Hycan-E, 2026 marked our first participation in the Summit. As a company connecting international customer requirements with China's manufacturing capabilities, we welcomed the opportunity to engage with industry professionals, introduce our services and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

Global Perspectives on a Changing Industry

The Summit featured a comprehensive programme of presentations from industry professionals around the world, covering market developments, manufacturing technologies and the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of metal packaging.

This year's programme also included speakers from China, who shared insights into the development and trends of the Chinese metal packaging market alongside international perspectives on the wider industry. These contributions offered delegates a broader understanding of regional market dynamics, manufacturing capabilities and the global forces influencing the sector.

The Summit's return to Shanghai after many years was particularly significant. China plays an important role in the global metal packaging supply chain, and bringing international professionals together in Shanghai created opportunities to exchange perspectives and strengthen connections between China and overseas markets.

As the industry continues to evolve, understanding both local manufacturing capabilities and global customer requirements is increasingly important for businesses seeking sustainable growth, greater resilience and new opportunities for collaboration.

From Industry Connections to Business Opportunities

For Hycan-E, the value of the Summit extended beyond the conference programme. During the event, several participants expressed interest in our services, creating opportunities to discuss their project requirements and explore potential cooperation.

Hycan-E supports international customers through technical consultancy, machinery solutions, project coordination and supply-chain support. By combining an understanding of customer needs with access to China's manufacturing expertise, we help customers identify suitable partners, evaluate technical solutions and navigate the complexities of working with Chinese suppliers.

The engagement continued after the official programme. Some participants who stayed in Shanghai following the Summit were introduced by Hycan-E to local suppliers. These visits gave them opportunities to explore manufacturing capabilities firsthand, exchange technical information and discuss potential areas of cooperation directly with suppliers.

These interactions demonstrated how industry networking can develop into practical business opportunities. For international companies looking to work with Chinese manufacturers, identifying the right supplier is only one part of the process. Understanding technical capabilities, communicating requirements and coordinating across different business environments are equally important.

Hycan-E aims to bridge these gaps by connecting international business needs with suitable manufacturing resources in China. Our role is not simply to introduce suppliers, but to help customers navigate the supply chain and explore practical solutions that meet their technical and commercial requirements.

For us, successful industry engagement means turning conversations into meaningful connections and creating opportunities for future collaboration.

Five Years of Connections and a New Industry Contribution

While 2026 marked Hycan-E's first participation in the Canmaker Summit, it was the fifth consecutive year of attendance for Erin. Over these five years, the event has become an important part of her professional journey—from attending as a newcomer to becoming a familiar face within the Summit community and building lasting professional relationships and friendships across the global canmaking industry.

This year brought another significant milestone. Erin was invited to join the editorial board of The Canmaker magazine, providing an opportunity to contribute to industry dialogue and share perspectives on developments shaping the metal packaging sector.

As part of this contribution, Erin wrote an article on behalf of the board titled “From Cost to Capability: Rethinking the Global Metal Packaging Supply Chain.”

The article explores the importance of looking beyond cost when evaluating global supply chains, recognising the growing significance of technical expertise, manufacturing capability, innovation and long-term cooperation. It also considers China's role in the evolving global metal packaging supply chain and the opportunities for international businesses to build stronger partnerships by taking a broader view of what manufacturing collaboration can offer.

These themes closely reflect the challenges facing the industry today. As manufacturers navigate changing market conditions, customer expectations and supply-chain requirements, the ability to connect capabilities across markets is becoming increasingly important.

For Hycan-E, contributing to this conversation reflects our commitment to understanding the industry not only from a commercial perspective, but also through technical knowledge, market insight and international collaboration.

The 2026 Summit also marked the 30th anniversary of The Canmaker Cans of the Year Awards, celebrating three decades of achievement and innovation in metal packaging. This milestone recognised the creativity, technical expertise and manufacturing excellence that continue to advance the industry.

For Hycan-E, our first participation in the Canmaker Summit was an opportunity to learn from industry leaders, build new relationships and introduce our capabilities to a wider international audience. The interest in our services and the supplier visits arranged after the event reinforced the value of connecting global requirements with China's manufacturing expertise.

We believe successful international cooperation requires more than access to products or suppliers. It depends on technical understanding, effective communication, reliable project coordination and a clear appreciation of customer needs.

As we look ahead, Hycan-E will continue to build on the connections established in Shanghai, strengthen relationships across the global canmaking community and support international customers in identifying and developing the right manufacturing and technical solutions in China.
